Top 50 GitHub Repositories Containing Claude Code / Agent Skills

Research date: 2026-11-01 (Japan time). Ranking: GitHub stars descending; forks shown independently. Scope: skills, skill libraries, plugin bundles, and skill-centric agent workflows with verified SKILL.md files. This is the top 50 among 65 qualifying repositories in a 77-repository candidate review; it is not an exhaustive census of all of GitHub.

Method: Searched GitHub repository topics/names/descriptions and independently referenced skill catalogs; checked each candidate through the GitHub REST repository endpoint for stars, forks, default branch, archival status, and latest push date; inspected recursive Git trees to locate exact-case SKILL.md files. Counts below include duplicates, platform mirrors, tests, and/or auxiliary instructions where present. The presence of SKILL.md was verified but its content and runnable scripts were not security audited. Values are a point-in-time snapshot, not live subscriptions.

Executive findings

• 50 ranked repos: 4,122,601 stars and 391,548 forks in aggregate. These are overlapping communities, not unique users or installations.
• Popularity concentration: Top three by stars: obra/superpowers, mattpocock/skills, affaan-m/ECC.
• Maintenance activity: 42 of 50 had a recorded push within 30 days of the snapshot; this does not prove all their skills are maintained.
• Biggest local skill-file inventories (raw counts): sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills (8,874; including many mirrored copies), affaan-m/ECC (1,068), davila7/claude-code-templates (917), ComposioHQ/awesome-claude-skills (864), mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills (818).
• Most useful compact engineering set: anthropics/skills, mattpocock/skills, addyosmani/agent-skills, and wshobson/agents. Choose subsets and review them before installation.

Complete ranking (stars, forks, local SKILL.md file counts)

Ranking by forks: top 10

Interpretation: Forks can indicate customization, teaching exercises, mirrors or personal backups. They are not independent evidence of quality or successful deployment. Very large star counts can reflect virality, not maturity or verified security.

Practical recommendations

Repositories deliberately excluded from the main ranking

This report prioritizes installable skill-focused assets. A GitHub repository may be very popular and contain SKILL.md files solely for its own maintainers, or be a links-only index without local skills.

Examples of useful catalogs excluded because they are indexes, not local skill packs: VoltAgent/awesome-agent-skills, hesreallyhim/awesome-claude-code, and travisvn/awesome-claude-skills.

Safe Claude Code installation: inspect before adding

First preview a repository without installing everything:

For local, manual installation, inspect skill files and supporting scripts before copying. Copy each complete skill directory, not an isolated SKILL.md, so references and scripts still resolve. Skills can be nested by category in source repos; blindly copying a top-level skills/ folder will not always produce valid .claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md layouts. Some repositories distribute Claude plugins, whose marketplace installation is preferable to raw directory copying.

Security checklist: check YAML frontmatter, script and shell execution, hook manifests, external APIs and network egress, secret reads, unsafe file operations, pinned commits, licenses, and overlapping command names. GitHub star/fork counts are not a safety signal. Large multi-agent systems can consume substantial context and introduce conflicting instructions.
