Deep learning is a subset of machine learning that focuses on teaching computers to learn from data in a way that is inspired by the human brain. In simple terms, deep learning uses neural networks with many layers (called deep neural networks) to automatically learn patterns from large amounts of data, such as images, text, audio, or video. Unlike traditional machine learning, where humans often have to manually select and design features from data, deep learning models can learn these features on their own as they process data through multiple layers. Neural networks are the core of deep learning—they are made up of interconnected “neurons” that pass information forward, adjust their weights during training, and gradually improve accuracy. Deep learning is widely used today in real-world applications such as image and face recognition, speech recognition and voice assistants, language translation, recommendation systems, autonomous vehicles, medical image analysis, and fraud detection, making it a key technology behind many modern AI systems.
